Information for Nannies

Most full time nannies work between 10-12 hour days, five days a week, part time nannies work either half days or fewer days per week. In addition to looking after the children, professional nannies have a standard set of duties for which they are responsible for.

The general role of a nanny is:

  • To care, stimulate and entertain the child/children throughout the day
  • Duties will include taking the children to school and to various activites and classes
  • To wash and iron the children's clothing and bedding
  • Change bed sheets weekly
  • To prepare nutritious meals and snacks
  • To tidy the children's bedroom(s), bathroom and playroom
  • Help with feeding/ sleeping routines
  • Potty training
  • To travel with the family if and when required

However, professional nannies are not expected to do other household chores or to cook for the entire family. Nannies should tend to his/her duties when there is down time, whilst the children are at school/nursery or asleep. This means nannies need to be organised and plan ahead!

Nannies must ensure they have relevant car insurance before transporting any child/children, along with age appropriate car seats.

Professional nannies should have public liability insurance, this protects the important relationship between you and your employer, giving you both peace of mind.
